Amethyst

“Amethyst” is one of those weird words-- like “opportunities--” that I always seem to misspell when I first type it. Incidentally, both of those words are very commonly used in my line of work, and a part of me thinks I am cosmically meant to misspell them so that I go back over them and really give them the attention they deserve. With many amethysts gracing my residence and workplace, I reap the benefits of this remarkable specimen daily, and can certainly attest that the faculties it has historically been attributed are 100% real.

For centuries, across the globe, this mineral has been assigned a set of properties that particularly revolve around healing physical and emotional ailments; it is said to have a higher frequency of energetic receptors to the nervous system, and subsequently functions like a sponge to soak up the intentions and energies put into it.

1. Amethyst can counteract negative earth energies beneath buildings or spaces to the extent that it can create life in areas where plants are typically unable to grow.
2. Amethyst is a mineral “tranquilizer” in that it is known to soothe, calm, and is said to quell insomnia.
3. The Temperance card in the tarot is historically connected to amethyst; its mineral properties are often associated with curbing overindulgence and bad habits.
4. The presence of manganese in clear Quartz produces Amethyst, while additional amounts of iron vary the purple coloration.
5. Amethyst supports oxygenation in the blood, and aids in treatments of the digestive tract, heart, stomach, and skin.
6. Amethyst’s purple color is associated with balancing red and blue, which are considered opposite spectrums. Because of that, in Color Theory, it is interpreted as a bridge between the firery, hot temper and the cool, muted temper.
7. In Feng Shui practice, amethyst is used to bring on an energy of illumination, creativity, balance, and passion (including a sexual charge in the household).
8. If you are stressed or over-worked, giving yourself a moment with amethyst resting on your crown chakra or forehead can reduce stress levels in such noticeable ways as to be visible to most healthcare practitioners.
9. Considered an “all healer,” the properties of this mineral specimen are also effective on animals.
10. Amethyst is also known as a couple’s stone for commitment, and was worn by St. Valentine to represent longevity in relationships.
